Canon Howl
Howell Jenkins, better known as the Wizard Howl, is from Diana Wynne Jones' book Howl's Moving Castle and the screen adaptation by Hayao Miyazaki. He is a young wizard who is melodramatic, vain, lazy, cowardly, and entirely too handsome for his own good. Letting his apprentice run his shops, Howl spends his days chasing women, spending money, and dodging the workload the King of Ingary would like to see him upkeeping. He is a smart man who takes his skills for granted, but has a good heart. Said heart is bound to the fire demon Calcifer, to keep him alive. In return, Calcifer lends his powers to Howl's. It comes in handy when he is dealing with the Witch of the Waste - a scorned lover who is out for Howl's heart.
AU Howl
Howell Jenkins (Howl is his stage-name) is from a small, plain little town in Wales. As smart and lazy as his canon counterpart, Howell is a trouble child with big dreams of a grander place then small Mas Farthing. His head is never particularly where it should be; neither is his nose. Shuffled into acting as an outlet for his behavior, Howell flourished in the limelight. Alternate University is his chance to get out of his town and persue his wants - he will be double majoring in Theatre and Astrophysics. (Acting is his newfound passion; Astronomy is his hidden fascination.)
Physical Howl
Vanity is Howl's main reason for staying fit, though he does enjoy being active. His lean but strong physique comes from highschool rugby playing. The color of his straight, shoulder-length hair changes with his variable moods, but most of the time it is a flaxen blonde. Howl always looks impeccable - who knows what lovely young lady might be waiting around the next corner? His eyes are a clear, light blue-green and his smile a weapon he knows how to use.
